iuGO featured in the Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

The Trinidad and Tobago Newsday recently had an article about us in the business section of the paper. Dexter and Myself were starring in a not so flattering photo taken outside our building on Herbert street. Trust me when I say that we both look better in real life 😉 Jokes aside check out the article after the jump and tell us what you think in the comments below.

iuGo Creates New Opportunity – T&T Newsday

LOCAL BUSINESSES are increasingly turning to the internet and popular social networking websites to advertise their products to specific target markets. Facebook is one of the most popular of these sites, with most internet users in Trinidad and Tobago accessing the site on a regular basis.

Social media monitoring site, Social Bakers, estimated more than 90 percent of those who use the internet locally access Facebook; the number one website of its kind and therefore a major hub for new media marketing.

The question now facing many TT businesses is not if to advertise online but how to and where to do so. Digital marketing solutions often require the help or guidance of professionals, not just someone who knows who to set up a “pay-per-click” advertisement on Facebook.

That’s the very reason why IUGO Digital Marketing was established as a new division of Lonsdale, Saatchi and Saatchi (Lonsdale), one of TT’s major advertising agencies. Chairman of Lonsdale, Kenrick Attale, noted consumers’ changing media use habits, which he said requires expertise to get your message across effectively.

“A lot of the emerging market and the market between 35 and 40 are now consuming media differently. They consume their news from their laptops, their music from their mp3 players and their games from their smartphones.

“They want the kind of interactivity that digital consumption allows. This in turn creates tremendous opportunity for organisations to communicate with them, provided they have the tools and know-how to do so effectively. This is what IUGO brings to the table,” Attale stated.

The other divisions created by Lonsdale are Sage Corporate Communications and Publications, and The Aesthetic 868, for event management, experience marketing and spatial branding design.

Lonsdale said this was a major shift in its business plan but one which it was optimistic about.

Pronounced ‘I-you-go’; Latin for “to connect”, IUGO provides website design and development, display and search advertising, brand monitoring, interactive applications; flash games, eCards, et cetera, and Mobile phone applications and more.

IUGO is now a registered iPhone and BlackBerry developer and has already developed custom “In D Mix” apps for Angostura posted to the respective companies’ App Stores, as well as designed the White Oak website.

Based at Lonsdale’s offices on Herbert Street, St. Clair, IUGO has a core staff of two -Justin Beausoleil and Dexter Banfield, veteran web developer and local new media pioneer. Rather than hiring a large in-house staff, IUGO has established partnerships with new media professionals locally, regionally and internationally. These connections include all of the global digital divisions and companies owned by Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide.

Lonsdale’s Chief Operating Officer, Rachel Stämpfli, spoke of IUGO’s ability to access talent as needed for new media projects large and small.

“IUGO has been outfitting itself with very good human resources, not just in Trinidad but in the Caribbean and internationally. This includes Web designers and developers. Already we have access to designers in Trinidad, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, the UK and Russia. Our list of developers is very wide and growing all of the time.

“IUGO is well equipped to handle any job…from a basic website for a small retail company or a professionally developed Facebook page to highly customised websites with a lot of complex functionalities,” Stämpfli said.

Several Lonsdale clients in need of digital marketing have used IUGO’s services, including BLINK Broadband for its social media presence and weekly blog. The team also designed and developed the digital aspect of bMobile’s “Hands Free” campaign, which included highly interactive web and Facebook pages.

IUGO has also worked on the University of Trinidad and Tobago’s Caribbean Fine Cocoa website, as well as designed and developed the website and Facebook pages for the ABEL Buildings Solutions Caribbean Construction Awards. New website with that new car scent

New website with that new car scent

It’s been long overdue but we’ve finally launched our brand new website. For way too long we’ve been sporting a temporary one-pager which we had to setup while we worked on various client projects. We are all too familiar with that well known saying “the shoemakers son has no shoes” but today he’s got a brand new pair of designer sneakers.

The Design

We wanted a design that was in keeping with our identity as well as a bit on the unusual side. We needed our site to stand out, but not so much so that we compromised functionality. Have you ever seen one of those totally out of the box websites that look totally awesome until you realize that you can’t find anything or figure out how to get around? It’s totally frustrating and this is why we didn’t want to go down that road. Good design must be functional and beautiful. I believe we’ve achieved this.

If you look at the front page we have these diagonal lines which separate different content areas. You would think that this shouldn’t work but somehow it does. It’s a bit off the beaten track but content is where it should be and our simple navigation bar to the top, leads you down the path to discover more.

The Content

If you go through the different sections of our site you will find out all you need to know about iuGO digital. We’ve got information about who we are and our services, as well as a portfolio section with screenshots and project descriptions of some of our work. You can even get to know us through our blog and get in touch if you are thinking about working for us or us working for you.

The Future

A great website is never done and so we are going to keep tweaking our copy and adding new features and recent projects. We also intend to post to our blog as often as possible so pop in once in a while and check us out. Alternatively you can subscribe to our newsletter or like us on Facebook.

That’s all for now but if you’ve got questions or comments related to this article then give us a shout in the comments below.
